Sew A New Native Sling: McCall's 5678 Review

I made Evangeline a sling for her birthday!  I have been wanting a baby sling for Evangeline for the last 6 months.  We have a number of baby carriers but I really wanted to have a baby sling that I could put on in just a few seconds for short episodes of baby wearing.  Originally I hoped to purchase a Maya Wrap Ring Sling but the money I had saved for that was needed to buy gas for a trip we just took.  Then I decided to try to make a Maya.  The company is so nice that they even put the instructions for how to sew one on their website!  When it came time to sew the Maya Wrap I could not find my special ring slings that a friend had given me years ago. Then I remembered the McCalls pattern I had purchased last year that included a Mei Tai and a sling pouch.  Ta da!  The sling looks very similar to a New Native Sling Pouch.  The happy hubby was watching the kiddos so this was the perfect time to get started on a new project just in time...

Evangeline Grace: 11.5 Months Update

Eva wearing her Mamaw's dress that I also wore!    It's hard to believe that Evangeline will soon be one year old!  As the weather begins to change I find myself remembering back to this time last year: the wonderful Babymoon we took to Columbus two weeks before she was born, the many walks we went on as a family, a good friend's wedding, the Woolfest, the final days of gardening, and the last week or two leading up to her birth. Eva is waving hello in this picture. Eva continues to be quite the little jabber jaws.  :)  She says mama, daddy, uh-oh, and hi.  Evangeline has also been trying to say Bekah and Brother which comes out kind of like Bubba.  I am often asked if Eva is as happy as she appears to be.  She has her moments but most of the time she is just an absolutely delight and a bundle of joy.  I love her giggles and how her face scrunches up when she gets excited.   Eva has started WALKING!  She took her f...

Evangeline Grace: 10 Months Update

Evangeline enjoying one of her many hikes this past month! Evangeline's 10th month has been filled with fun!  We went on vacation, attended the Ohio State Fair, and spent lots of time building memories and enjoying our summer!  I can't believe she is going to have a birthday soon.  She weighs 20.5 pounds which means she has actually lost almost a pound from last month.  (Eli did the same thing once he became mobile.)  This is due to the fact that she is on the MOVE!  Eva Grace is always going, going, going.  She crawls everywhere and she cruises!  We keep watching and waiting for her to walk.  They are the best of friends!   Elijah and Evangeline continue to spend more and more time playing together every day.  Such a joy and delight to this mama's heart.  Eva has started trying to talk to Eli and I wouldn't be surprised if she comes up with a really fun nick name for him.  (I used to call my brother Bubbe...

Evangeline Grace: 9 Months Update

Evangeline with Daddy at Kentucky Lake. Our sweet Evangeline is such a delight to our family and seems to bring joy to everyone around her.  This month we have enjoyed being outdoors with her more.  She loves to be worn by both mommy and daddy.  We love the flexibility and freedom that baby wearing brings.  We were able to enjoy a nice long 2.5 mile hike this past month. All smiles watching Eli & I roll out pretzel dough.  Evangeline continues to enjoy sitting with us at the table for meals but does not enjoy eating anything!  We recently tried a little juice just for fun since I know it serves no nutritional value.  She liked it okay but we will not be allowing her to indulge in it except on the rare occasion.  Evangeline continues to dislike any form of food, cheerios, etc.  She continues to nurse every few hours and has yet to drop any of her feedings.  (I know by this point Elijah had dropped down to fewer feedings but I...

Evangeline Grace: 8 Months Update

Is it just me or do you see a twinge of red? Evangeline is growing fast.  She is now over 21 pounds and long.  (We just went for a check-up but I never remember lengths.)  Since the happy hubby and I are both fairly tall I expect Eva will be as well.  At her check-up last week I was reminded of how much we have to be thankful for Eva's good health.  She is growing well and our pediatrician has no concerns about her.   Exploring a nectarine. Eva is still not very interested in eating.  So far she does not enjoy any baby food or cereal.  She continues to be quite dramatic whenever we give her something!  Last week I ate the skin off of a nectarine and she did enjoy licking it.  I wouldn't really say she ate any of it.  Maybe next month?  :)  We have introduced a sippy cup which she likes to chew on.   Friends forever.   One of the sweetest aspects of having our second child has been watching Eva a...

Evangeline Grace: 7 Months Update

Our little sleeping beauty loves to sleep late in the morning.  Sometimes I wake her and sometimes I just let her sleep.   Every time I sit down to write an update about our sweet Evangeline I can't believe another month has passed.  Honestly it's almost time to write Eva's 8 month old update since she will be 8 months old by the end of the week.  (I'm going to just include pictures in this post up and insights until about Eva turned 7 months old which was the middle of May.) Although she might look excited in this picture-Evangeline HATES baby food!    Although Eva has tried a variety of baby food (slowly introduced one per week) she continues to hate everything we have given her.  It doesn't matter if it is jarred or homemade baby food she hates it all!  Eli on the other hand thinks baby food tastes great so he is more than happy to finish anything she doesn't eat.  :)  At over 20 pounds the doctor isn't worried one bit! ...

Evangeline Grace: 6 Months Update

This picture was taken the first day we spent an extended period of time outside.   As I sit writing this update sweet Evangeline is rolling and rolling all over the family room floor.  It will probably be just a few weeks and she will be full out crawling!  Ah!  I'm not sure that I am ready for the craziness that will entail.  :)  Time to buy a gate.   This month Eva has reached 19 pounds 9 ounces and is getting long!  She has just about outgrown her 9 months clothes and is ready for 12 month clothing. Eva is SUCH a Daddy's girl.  She will stop whatever she is doing and give him the biggest grin. She laughs and giggles whenever he enters the room.   To say that Evangeline is a delight to our family is an understatement.  We love her to pieces!  It really is hard to imagine life without her.  She loves playing especially with her brother or in the Johnny Jump Up.  At this point she can almost sit up on...

Eva's First Bite

Eli has been asking for months when Evangeline could eat real food.  I told him we would wait until she was at least 6 months old.  The day she turned six months old he kept asking to feed her.  I told him we had to wait until she showed all of the signs of being ready which at 6 months old she just hadn't quite reached.  After she was able to sit up he could give Eva her first bite of real food.  So here are a few pictures of Eli feeding Eva (with help) her first bite of food (unsweetened applesauce I canned).   Such a fun memory to watch Evangeline experience food for the first time!

Evangeline Grace 5 Months Update

Our sweet Evangeline sporting her new Arkansas shirt. Every month when Evangeline hits another monthly milestone I am amazed at how quickly time passes.  She is such a bundle of joy and brings so much delight to our home.  She weighs 18 lbs 11 oz.  I don't know how long she is but she is getting tall.   We continue to delight in a "chubby cherub" and let me tell you I absolutely love each and every roll.  Evangeline has learned to roll over both ways and will be crawling before we know it.  Eva's favorite thing to do is to play with her brother.  He continues to shower her with kisses and plays with her all the time.  One of Eva's favorite things to do is to play in her Johnny Jump Up.  She bounces up and down like crazy with the biggest smile on her face.  Sometimes I place the Jump Up in Eli's doorway so she can watch him and jump up and down at the same time. Eva has also started sitting in the Bumbo seat which she lo...
